K9 Koda is an 8-year-old, Shepherd/Malinois mix. Koda was born in Budapest, Hungary and came to the United States on his 1-year birthday. Koda was selected by his handler Dave Heath and trained at Mac’s K9 Core in Ayden N.C. Koda was trained in Explosive’s Detection, Tracking, and Article Search.
K9 Koda served his Law Enforcement Career at East Carolina University Police Department from April 2018 until he retired in November 2025 with his handler. During his time with the Police Department, K9 Koda had multiple deployments throughout eastern and northeastern North Carolina. K9 Koda also conducted hundreds of Explosive Sweeps at ECU for sporting events, high profile guest speakers, concerts, political visitors, and numerous Presidential Campaigns. He also conducted Explosive Sweeps at multiple venues throughout N.C. assisting the NC State Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Air Force, NC State University PD, and the United States Secret Service.
